More money in your pocket.
Who doesn’t want that?
A common misconception many of the men I’ve helped in the past has been that dressing well has to be expensive.
The truth is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look great.
Back in the day I was convinced that the more money I spent on clothing the better I looked.
In an attempt to be more like Pharrell and Kanye West I went through a street-wear phase in my early 20’s.
All I would wear was A Bathing Ape, Naked & Famous Jeans, and a flashy pair of sneakers.
Just to give you an idea, A Bathing Ape hoodies go for about $300 and their t-shirts are anywhere between $70 to $100.
A little excessive to say the least.
Now there’s nothing wrong with splurging on a few pieces every once in a while.
Just keep in mind that it’s not necessary to build your entire wardrobe around expensive pieces.
My turning point came when a girl I was dating at the time called me out for not being that stylish.
I was shocked!
This entire time that I thought that I was the best dressed guy on campus by wearing these exclusive brand names.
Of course that wasn’t the case.
The moral of this story is that it doesn’t matter what you paid for something or who designed it.
Ultimately it’s all about how you put together your outfit and if it genuinely reflects your personality.
Nobody will ever look at the labels on your clothes. If you’re covered in logos from head to toe you will come across as a guy who’s trying to hard to get approval from others.
The era of wearing expensive brand names is now behind me.
Nowadays you can find me in a pair of jeans from Topman that sell for $65 rather than $150 for a pair of Naked & Famous.
The secret is to know exactly what to look for when buying new clothes and where to find those pieces.
Remember to build your wardrobe around the essential pieces.
The best place to start is to clarify what image you’d like to create for yourself, afterwards determine what your budget will be, and then finally buy the items.
Once you have this figured out you’ll never spend more than you should.
Though there is no need to spend a lot of money on expensive labels to look great, there are certain items that are worth investing more in.
Never cheap out on your footwear, underwear, or suits.
The first two you will spend a lot of time wearing and there’s a noticeable difference in terms of quality and comfort between a cheap pair of shoes and underwear as opposed to well made pairs.
As for suits there’s a wide range of options when it comes to budgets.
There’s always the off-the-rack selection or the custom made route.
No matter which way option you choose, the price can vary from a couple hundred dollars to a few thousand.
Just keep in mind how frequently you’ll be wearing them and how long you intend to keep the suit for. Once established, decide on your budget accordingly.
If you’re a busy man with a full-time career and other commitments outside of work, like a social life, then the fastest and easiest way for you to see results is to get someone to do all the work for you.
Rather than spending your valuable time and energy trying to figure out if something’s a good deal, if it will look as good on you as it does in the display, or if it’s “stylish,” consider tapping into the knowledge of an expert.
