How To Dress Well Even If You're Not At Your Ideal Weight (Yet)
Getting to your ideal weight... It'd be a dream come true, wouldn't it?
Without a doubt, it's a journey that takes plenty of patience and a great deal of commitment to achieve -- but nothing's impossible!
This can be a tricky subject to navigate. With so many factors at play, where does one begin?
My personal journey started back when I was 19 years old.
Thankfully most of my friends were working or out of town that summer. So you could say my fitness journey started out of boredom.
I knew getting to my ideal weight was going to take a ton of dedication. This meant staying committed even when I felt like quitting.
I promise you that digging deep and showing up when you don't want to will be worth it! If I can get to my ideal weight, so can you.
NOTE: With that said, the subjects of fitness and nutrition (though a key part of my lifestyle) will likely never be discussed in great detail on this site.
Even though I've had clients in the past who have been persistent about seeking my advice when it comes to this.
Just recently I did make an exception and was able to help one client get back on track with his gym routine. His name has been left out for the sake of his privacy.
He was even kind enough to write this testimonial:
"At a time when I needed a push to get me doing what I needed and wanted to do in my life — get back into the gym and get physically fit — Sunjeev offered a listening ear, an approachable and friendly manner, and a roadmap forward.
"Throughout our engagement, he held me to account and provided needed support and motivation. Mission accomplished!"
To be honest, it does all tie together.
When you take care of your body, it's reflected in your style. You feel better about yourself and choose to dress in a way that proudly displays the hard work you've been putting in.
Though it may not seem obvious at first. In my experience these shifts tend to happen gradually over time.
As your health and fitness goals are achieved one after another, your style evolves with it.
At least that's been my experience.
During those years I learned a few key style hacks that will help you dress well even if you're not at your ideal weight (yet)...
Highlight Your Assets While Downplaying Your Less Flattering Areas
This is all about playing to your strengths while drawing attention away from your "trouble areas."
There's a number of ways to achieve this but for the sake of your sanity I'll keep it simple.
An easy way of making yourself look slimmer through your style is to wear darker colours.
Navy, grey, and black will all work to your advantage -- black being your best bet.
Doing so will streamline your outfits by reducing any contrasts created by brighter shades and eliminates any shadows cast by "trouble areas."
Basically it's a life-hack that'll make you look slimmer without having actually lost any weight.
Avoid Bold Patterns And Loud Colours
Stay away from patterns as a general rule of thumb since they add mass to your outfits.
Another reason why you'll want to avoid bolder looks is that it will make getting dressed every morning much easier.
One pattern I'd recommend is vertical stripes. Use them to your advantage!
When you're getting checked out vertical stripes draw peoples' eyes up and down instead of side to side.
They also give your body an elongated appearance while slimming you at the same time.
Sounds alright, doesn't it?
Embrace The Journey!
Life moves too fast for you not to enjoy it.
Of course you might be working towards an "ideal weight" but who says you can't have fun along the way?!
I'm encouraging you to put your best foot forward today rather than waiting until you meet your goals.
It's not going to be easy at first. It's going to make you feel very uncomfortable at times but anything worth achieving always will.
So if there's a new outfit you've been meaning to wear out in public that you've been holding back on, go for it!
If there's a new accessory you've been meaning to add to your wardrobe like an eye-catching fedora or a suit that isn't black, grey, or navy, go for it!
The greatest blessing in disguise that life brought me was the opportunity to visit my grandpa in the nursing home.
He spent the last few years of his life there. Even though it was a nice place that took good care of him, it was depressing!
It often made me think of what the last few moments of my life would look like -- eye opening to say the least.
My biggest takeaway was that there's NO way I'd be looking back on it with a sense of regret.
The point I'm trying to make is that this could be your last chance to live the way you've always envisioned living -- you NEVER know what tomorrow will bring.
Don't hold back!
I understand that we're all travelling our own journey and have our own mountains to climb.
Hopefully today's article will help make that climb a little easier for you.
