If there was only one item I had to recommend to guys there’s no question what it would be…
But before we get to that let’s talk about Calgary for a second.
Men’s style in Calgary is casual enough that many professionals can get away without having to wear a full suit and tie to the office.
Maybe it’s our Western heritage or it could be the Stampede and the small town vibe our city has.
Whatever the reason, it seems that so many guys have the right idea but come up short with their execution.
The one must-have item every guy should own is a well-fitted pair of dark blue jeans.
It’s a classic piece that effortlessly works with everything from t-shirts to dress-shirts and blazers.
First and foremost — if you’re still wearing jeans with white stitching and excessive embellishments, get rid of them NOW.
Last year I interviewed 10 of my close female friends and wearing these type of jeans was the #1 deal-breaker for them.
What else to avoid:
- Baggy, oversized jeans will look out of place with a nice dress shirt and blazer. Think of this as a mullet that transformed into clothes — not a look any of us want to pull off.
- Blazers that are TOO FORMAL (suit jackets and sport coats are very different, I’ll talk about them in a future post). Same idea as before, this will make your jeans (even if they fit well) look out of place.
- Using your suit jacket. Doing this too often will cause the jacket to fade so when you go to wear the full suit the colouring of the pants and jacket will be different.
To avoid mistakes like these and to make sure you’re well prepared, I’ve compiled this post with a focus on 3 different ways to pull off the jeans and blazer look.
Looks for inspiration…

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.
This is only 3 possibilities that you can create with a pair of jeans and a handful of blazers. I encourage you to experiment with layering, different tops, and a variety of footwear.
